rattan cut.jpg
These are "rattan cut" because the nodes remind me of working with rattan.

tribal side a.jpg
This design reminds me of Filipino tribal designs, hence the name. It's a combination of the rattan and pineapple cuts shown above. Those were done on 1" stock and cut deeper for a 3D effect. I used the same settings for the Tribal design but on 7/8" stock so the design would be flatter and the lines more distinct.

tribal side b.jpg
Whereas side A shows the X pattern on the front and back of the work, side B shows the diamond on the left and right sides.

tribal end trio.jpg
These 6.5" tabaks are Filipino palm sticks, used for self-defense. These also can be used as rhythm instruments like claves. These were done in conversational cam using tool turning for the straight grooves. The ends were done by adding both left and right three start spirals.

This is one of my older flutes, a diatonic scale (six holes) with a tuning hole for the tonic (low note). Originally these were done with a drill press and template, then I went to 3-axis cnc. I'm mostly doing pentatonic flutes now (five holes; like blues scale). John Hennan just helped with code for 4-axis in one of the online classes and someone asked me to post pictures. Until I have that code and run it, these pics will have to do.

This is the mouthpiece of a shakuhachi flute. As this is one of the older hand-made ones, that notch is cut from the inside with a Dremel. Now I'm using a V-bit to cut the angle from the top much more consistently.
